President Joe Biden said this Friday (1st) that the United States will use planes to launch humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
On Thursday (29), more than 100 civilians died during a food distribution, in which the Hamas government accused Israeli soldiers of opening fire and caused great international repercussions.
As a result, it has not yet been announced when exactly this air delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza will take place. US officials interviewed by Reuters on condition of anonymity said it could happen in the coming days.
In addition to the humanitarian aid announcement, Biden also said he is working on a ceasefire agreement in the war between Israel and Hamas so that more humanitarian aid can enter Gaza. In February, the US vetoed a ceasefire resolution presented by Algeria at the UN.
Furthermore, the president added that the aid that is entering Gaza is not enough.
With people eating animal feed and even cacti to survive, and with doctors saying children are dying in hospitals from malnutrition and dehydration, the UN said it faces “overwhelming obstacles” in providing aid.
