A Jordanian security officer was killed and another was injured in a knife attack near the Sri Lankan Embassy in Amman on Thursday, November 5. Jordanian state media identified the officer who died as Corporal Jawad Ali Khalaf Al-Salayta.
Al-Salayta was taken to a hospital in Amman, Jordan’s capital, but died from his injuries. Another security officer was hurt while trying to intervene and restrain the attacker. He remained hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities detained the suspect, but officials had not released information about his identity or a possible motive. Jordanian authorities are treating the incident as a terrorist attack.
The stabbing was the second attack in Jordan in about two weeks. On October 23, three gunmen entered Hamoud Church in Karak province, killing nine people and injuring 40 others. The victims were attending a funeral at the church. No group claimed responsibility for the shooting, but the Jordanian government classified it as terrorism motivated by religion.
