President Donald Trump has offered Dana White, a former fighter and president of the UFC, the position of White House press secretary. The role has been vacant since Katie Zacharia left after five days on the job amid criticism of her performance.
In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Nov. 7, Trump said he was offering the position to White and his team. He said he needed people like them to help him “defend ourselves against the lunatic left.” Trump described White as a “great” fighter and a tireless warrior, then urged him to accept the job.
Trump also said several fighters would be welcome at the White House as assistants to the new press secretary. He named Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Kayla Harris, and Brazilian fighter Amanda Nunes.
The communications leadership position has been vacant for more than a month. Zacharia left after criticism of her conduct at a news conference, where she reportedly confused Trump’s name with her husband’s. She also faced questions about her qualifications for the role.
Zacharia struggled to answer questions about decisions by the Trump administration. Asked whether the United States had stopped sharing military intelligence with Ukraine during its war with Russia, she said she would need to check the information before responding. She had taken the role after Karoline Leavitt left in August to focus on her family. Leavitt was named press secretary in January 2025 and, at age 27, became the youngest person to hold the position in the United States.
